Chamber Orchestras

April 17, 2014

This Spring has been the Spring of orchestra music for me. I have a couple of chamber orchestra concerts coming up:

The first is with One Found Sound on Saturday, April 19th! We are playing some great French music from 20th century by Ravel and Francaix with badass pianist, Keisuke Nakagoshi. Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin is kind of like the sequel to Couperin’s L’Apotheose de Lully, in that it is an acknowledgement of the past while ushering in a new era. Basically, Ravel uses the French suite form, but it still sounds like that other goofy stuff the French were doing in the nineteens. The Francaix Piano Concerto is also goofy, but in a more carnivally way. Both pieces are awesome! Keisuke sounds great and he’s also going to play some famous Debussy solo.

The Classical Revolution Oakland show on Wednesday the 23rd will feature 2 baroque concerti. Moses Lei will play the Bach Oboe D’amour Concerto on viola, and Rebecca Kleinmann (of La Dee Da fame!) will play The Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto in C. Also on the program is the Mendelssohn String Quartet in f minor, Opus 80, the MeduisTerra horn duo who I think will do a variety of classical music, and the Kodaly Duo for Violin and Cello.

Speaking of Kodaly, Mia Bella D’Augelli and I are also performing the Duo at her senior recital at Mills college on Friday, April 25th.

The listing:

4/19 One Found Sound at Salle Pianos. 1632 C Market St. San Francisco.  8pm, $20-$30 suggested donation, $15 for students.

4/23 Classical Revolution Oakland at Awaken Cafe. 1429 Broadway, Oakland, CA 94612. 7-10pm, $5-$20 donation.

4/25 Mia Bella D’Augelli’s senior recital at the Littlefield Concert Hall at Mills College. 5000 MacArthur Blvd, Oakland. 8pm. Free!
