Hi Friends!

In this day and age, the music industry is in a state of flux. Gone are the days where record companies would take chances on talented but little known artists. These days, many artists are turning to crowd sourcing as a way to pay for recording costs. Kickstarter and Indie Go-Go Dancer seem to be popular ways of raising money from friends, family, and fans. I have no problem this kind of financing, but one of my groups, Cosa Nostra Strings, is taking a slightly different approach. We are trying to tap our audience.

Sunday, June 4th, Cosa Nostra Strings is playing a show to help raise funds to record our album at the Starry Plough Pub in Berkeley, starting at 4pm. CNS is member of the Jazz Mafia record label/collective. The group is Shaina Evoniuk – violin, Keith Lawrence – Viola, Lewis Patzner – cello, Adam Theis – Trombone/bass, and Aaron Kierbel – drums. We play originals and covers in the jazz-pop vein, and we collaborate with a variety of vocalists.

Our show on Sunday is a continuation of the Classical Matinee Series, so we will be taking a leap (or a short hop) into the classical world, in addition to playing our originals and some choice covers. I personally have a couple new tunes that we will play. The Matinee Series is family friendly – all ages are welcome!, and the Starry Plough is 2 blocks from Ashby Bart. There will be no cover charge, but we will be passing a tip container that will go directly to the album fund. If you would like to donate in a tax deductible way, you can write a check to our fiscal sponsor.

Hope to see you there!

Day Of Shows

Tomorrow, Sunday 5/7, I’m playing 3 shows.

First, Les Ameriquains, Band of Fiddlers and Strummers for Parties and Other Occasions, is playing at the Musical Offering Cafe in Berkeley at 1pm. We will play music by Purcell, Praetorius, Locke, Charpentier, and maybe some Rameau.

Second, I’m playing solo cello music at the Starry Plough in Berkeley as part of the Classical Matinee Series. I will play Bach and original material. My friend, Tim DeCillis, will also perform his original solo music for vibraphone. We will probably collaborate a bit at the end. Music starts at 4pm.

Third, Forgotten Kingdoms, the brainchild of guitarist, Benny Langfur, is playing at Brick and Mortar in SF. This a jammy multicultural project, drawing a lot of inspiration from south Asia. Show starts at 8pm, and we play last.

You are all invited to all shows! Much love,
